Large Munsterlanders are Hunt, Point and Retrieve Gundogs, ideal for the Rough Shooter as they naturally cover all aspects when working to the gun. The breed has a natural strong hunting ability, which must be utilised with good solid basic training from a very early age.
They are high energy dogs, with a love of water and mud who need regular daily appropriate exercise to challenge their bodies as well as their brains, therefore these facts must be taken into serious consideration when thinking about owning a Large Munsterlander.
In the right hands, a Munsterlander is biddable, highly intelligent, a friendly and social dog, that adore human contact and are incredibly affectionate and love cuddles. Multi talented means they can achieve top awards in disciplines other than Gundog work (as long as their natural skills are acknowledged) i.e. Agility, Fly Ball and Obedience, in fact if trained a Munsterlander can and will do whatever you ask of it i.e. Pet Therapy, Search and Rescue and Demonstration Team Work and as well as winning Top Honours in the Show Ring.
